Disney On Ice Presents - Dare To Dream

Last Friday February 17, 2012 I was fortunate to attend Disney On Ice - The Dare To Dream show at TD Garden in Boston, MA. It was opening night. This was a great show - perfection, done as all Disney events are in first class style!  I was so impressed with this show that I went out and purchased the DVD "Tangled" - which The Chicago Sun-Times gives it 4 out of 4 stars.

The Dare To Dream Show was about the dreams of three of Disney's princesses based on Cinderella, Rapunzel from Tangled and Tiana from The Princess And The Frog.  The show consisted of approximately 20 mins. or so in a condensed version of each of the three movies performed live on ice.  The cast was excellent, the music superb and the props great - all was just spot on!  I've been to many Disney On Ice shows and this one is my favorite, I like this one the most.  If you get the opportunity to go to a show I would highly recommend this one, you won't be disappointed.

This quote from the book really hits home. It's all so true. We have had ups and downs within our family over the years. I love how the contributors in the book (especially the "Family Secrets" section) can be so open and honest. I'm sure I could write some stories of my own about my family, but writing it and putting everything out there would be tough.

I could relate to a story in the book about finding a long lost relative that someone did not even know they had in their life. I had a recent and wonderful experience this year that was similar. That's one thing I really love about this book, the fact that almost anyone will find some way to relate to the family stories.

Bonnie And Clyde Revisited

Hunted by lawmen in the early 1930's for many crimes including the murders of thirteen people, nine of which were law enforcement personnel and bank robberies during the great depression era - Bonnie and Clyde are today "folk law heroes". This was depicted in the 1967 movie Bonnie & Clyde starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.

 A new movie is due out soon titled "The Story Of Bonnie And Clyde". We are still fascinated by this criminal couple even though they were ruthless criminal murderers. Their rein of terror was ended on May 23, 1934 in Bienville Parish, LA after lawmen set up an ambush and four Texas officers and two from Louisiana shot them when they appeared in an automobile in broad daylight.

 There currently is a museum located at 2419 Main St., Gibsland, LA called the "Bonnie And Clyde Ambush Museum" which is in the last cafe they dined in minutes before their death. It was called "Ma Canfield's Cafe" at that time. To read more about the museum go to: www.bonnieandclydemuseum.com

Final Farewell For Whitney Houston - We Will Always Love You Too!

Whitney Houston's life was celebrated on Saturday February 18, 2012 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, NJ in a private four hour service that was broadcast live on television networks and the Internet.  Many stars were in attendance, including Kevin Costner,  Stevie Wonder and Alicia Keys - there were a total of 16 singers and speakers at the service that was described as a "home-going" by her family.  It is an expression they use in their Christian belief that in death the soul returns home to God in heaven.  This was a befitting celebration of a pop icon who had a one of a kind beautiful voice - she leaves a legacy of wonderful hits including the one posted here "I Will Always Love You" her biggest hit.

Some tabloids are already speculating on her cause of death and one post I saw while in line at a supermarket stated that she spent 7 million on cocaine.  I wonder where they get this info from - her dealer? I'm sure he or she is a fine upstanding citizen that keeps excellent records and reports this income on their 1040 Schedule C!  Her family and friends deserve some time be left alone to grieve - especially her daughter and her mother. The service concluded as the pallbearers carried her casket and her song "I Will Always Love You" played.  She was to be buried in Westfield, NJ

Confused Critters??

Our mild winter has continued and it is confusing some of our wonderful wildlife.  Beside seeing many Deer, I have seen (and smelled!!) many Skunks - it is unbelievable how many are out there.  There are also many Possum and Raccoons, even some Turkeys.  It almost feels as though Spring is here - with temps running in the upper 40's range - it's no wonder.  Even the plant world is confused as The Springfield Republican newspaper published a picture of a bulb plant sprouting some shoots in front of The Basketball Hall Of Fame in Springfield, MA.  Speaking of the plant world - I wonder how this winter will impact the maple sugar industry?

I have seen many farms beginning to set up their pipelines for collecting maple sap.  I hope it will turn out to be a good year for them as they depend on the cold nights and warmer days to get the sap to run.  Our nights haven't been too cold either, the last few were running around 38 degrees.  It is now so commonplace to see the maple tree pipelines being run - replacing the old fashioned tap & bucket method.  I was fortunate to see one farm putting out the buckets - it is comforting to see them and think of those old days along with the "Sugar on Snow" gatherings.  The only problem is: WE HAVE NO SNOW!!!  Lets all hope this turns out to be a good year for this industry as many farmers depend on that income.

Survivor Is Back - One World

I am glad to see that Survivor is back!  It is on Wednesday nights at 8 pm on CBS.   This season there is a slight couple of twists.   First - Redemption Island is gone and second - both tribes live on the same beach.  The tribes are separated by men & women and they have to live with each other in close proximity.  Some tension began when the tribes had 60 seconds to retrieve food & supplies off of a truck.  As the women were gathering their items, the men kept sneaking over and stealing some of the ladies bounty.  There were a couple of surprises in the first episode and there was an injury with a tribe member being sent home.

You won't want to miss the season, should be a good one.   Also Amazing Race is coming back this Sunday February 19th at roughly 8 pm after 60 Minutes.

Valentines Wishes

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Valentines Day and also a memorable one!  I was fortunate to be able to spend some quality time with my oldest Grandson at his elementary school, as it was Grandparents Day.  I met some other nice Grandparents there and had a real nice day.  Of course later on I was able to spend some time with my younger Grandson and give them their Valentine (which is what they were most happy about!)  My youngest tells me that "he needs presents" - he is so smart for a 2 year old who will be 3 in March!  I always look forward to spending time with them - they are precious.  It's amazing how wonderful it is to be with your Grandchildren - it is so different from raising your own kids.  Maybe because we as Grandparents are more mature and our responsibilities are different now then when we were parents.  Our patience level is much greater too!!!!
